Red Bird Mission project

Red Bird Mission project

Red Bird Mission

This past weekend 33 people of various ages from the Florence and Bellevue Vineyard travled to Beverly, Kentucky to Red Bird Mission. The goal was to help those with a basic construction needs. The projects included putting shingles on a roof, dry wall, building a handycap ramp, putting in a new shower(and bathroom),putting in a new floor(at the onsite doctor's home). Almost all the projects were completed, but with some rainy weather, and some other unforseen problems not everything got done. It was a great weekend, and a future trip is already planned for March '09.
The mission has ministered to the people of Appalachia since 1921. And with love and support it will continue into the future.

Walk to Emmaus

Last weekend I had one the most awesome Christian experience in my life. I was sponsor by my beautiful wife to be a part of "The Walk to Emmaus". It was so life changing(eternal changing)it was amazing.
I also met the greatest group of guys all from Northern Ky. We laugh uncontrollably, and cried from brokenness. Our guys ranged from 21 to 79, and we were all ministered to. The were powerful testimonies that moved your heart, and jokes to make laugh till your side hurt. If anyone reads this post. My hope and prayer is for you to be able to participate.

Govenor Bert T Combs

Here is an article I read of Bert T Combs. It's a good read, and since he was a Governor with the same last name made it even that more interesting. As he stated, he was no saint, We may not be a direct kin, but we Combs's believe we are related some how. He was in office when I was a couple years old. He was able to accomplish a lot for the state of Kentucky in education and transportation. He was a man of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, and he never forgot where he was from. http://www.appalachianheritagealliance.org/BertTCombs.htm

Florence Freedom

Friday night was Alexandria night at the Florence Freedom baseball game,http://www.florencefreedom.com/ . The Florence boys were on a roll, they had 4 or 5 home runs. The final score was 14-4. It was a great time, and for the price you can not beat it.

"Harold"

The world premier of the new release movie "Harold" happened last weekend in Chicago. It is a movie of a teenage boy w/premature balding. The film was co written by Cathy's brother Greg, and T Shawn .... Unfortunately we gave it a rating of a 5 out of 10. It wasn't the greatest movie, but we had great weather, and Chicago was beautiful and busy. While there we did a little site sighting since Cathy had never really been to Chi town.

Tiger Woods~US Open 2008

What can be said about Tiger Woods? The man is a machine. This past weekend was the US Open in ...... Tiger was on fire even though he has suffering from a painful knee injury. But watching his game it didn't seem to effect his type of play. On so many days of the tournament he would end it in Tiger style. Always exciting, and always when he needed it.
True to form, he came into Sunday in the hunt. And on the 18 hole he sunk a 12 putt to put the tournament into sudden death. Rocky .... and he played the sudden death round on Monday, and this was one to go the distance. After 18 the score was still even up. The way the rules are after the 18 hole sudden death is to play hole by hole until there is a winner. So on the first hole it seemed to be what was going to be a longer afternoon. But Rocky... was starting to show some cracks in his game, and ended the hole with a boogie. Tiger was able to complete the hole true to form, and par the hole. And once again, the Tiger Factor seemed to much for the competition. So this makes Tigers 14 major, 4 behind his hero Jack Nichols most major wins of 18. If Tiger can stay healthy, it will be exciting to watch history in the making. Tiger is a class act, it couldn't happen to a better guy. Go Tiger.

Junior hits 600th home run

Ken Griffey has hit his 600th home run. This will make him a member of a very exclusive club of baseball legends. There are only five others who can make this claim. Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds. Congrats Jr., we salute you.

Tornadoes in the Tri State area, Campbell county hit

Wednesday June 4th, tornado warnings were issued for the Southeast Indiana,Southwest Ohio, and Northern Kentucky. Normally Southern Campbell misses any of the severe weather that hits Northern Kentucky;because of the location to the river.
But Wednesday night Grant's Lick and surrounding area was not spared. Damage of downed trees and power lines were more of an inconvience than loss of property. There were some barnes lost, but other that, nothing. The National Weather Assoc. confirmed that tornadoes had in fact formed, and touched down.
Southern Campbell Fire Department was dispatched around 1800hrs, and worked cleaning up and securing effected areas until about 2330.

We are having a girl

My daughter went to the doctor today, and they believe we are having a girl. Kateri said they are not sure because the baby was running a marathon, and would not sit still. But by all indications, the baby is a girl.

A night at the theatre

Tonight Cathy and I are "going to the theatre", say that with a fake British accent, and it is funny. We are going to a small theatre on the corner of 8th & York Streets in Newport, the place is called the Stained Glass Theatre(I love that name). It is so fitting since it is an old church.

It should be a nice evening. She and I enjoy going to live performances. And we have talked about going every little chance we have to visit one of Cathy's favorite resturant next door,York St. Cafe.

"Daddy Dyin' Who's got the Will?", I believe it is a comedy.

The joys of being a grandpa

This past weekend Corbin came to Grandpa and KK's house. We had the greatest time! We played with toys, the piano. We climbed steps, down steps, took a walk. We did one, two, threeee. : ) Kateri and Anthony came back way to soon!!! But if they hadnt, I think three of us would have had an afternoon nap. Grandkids, I hope we have a house full. But Corbin will do for the moment. But come August, we will have two!
